I had a lovely day with friends in London and we had coffee here in this grand hotel. The hotel forms the frontispiece of St Pancras station which originally opened in 1873 and closed in 1935. It has recently undergone a splendid redevelopment. More photos to come I'm sure.
Ooh I didn't know you could go in for coffee - do you need jacket and tie (if you're a man!) It's a magnificent building from an age when they did things properly!
@judithg Ah well, there was a minimum charge of £12.50 per person. Coffee was £5, cake was £6 so that was a problem. We decided to leave and told the waitress that we hadn't realised there was a minimum charge. She said that if we were only staying for half an hour we would only be charged for what we had ordered. I think it's to deter people coming in and sitting over their laptops for an hour or more. We were also able to view the grand staircase, which was well worth a look up.
it is a beautiful building judith, inside the station is pretty cool too. Our Nottingham trains used to go straight into the heart of the station, we've now been replaced by the Eurostar and we terminate just on the fringes of the old canopy :(
