Sunset at Avebury by busylady

Sunset at Avebury

Avebury is a site similar to Stonehenge but much more extensive. The standing stones are very impressive especially when viewed against the sunset. We spent a pleasant weekend here and took a guided tour of the stone circle. They still don't know exactly why the stones were put there but they believe it was a meeting place and a place to keep in the spirits of the dead. It was certainly very atmospheric.
Very lovely colours!

Beautiful shot and a lovely part of the country. We lived near Avebury in the late 1970s when we were in the RAF at Rudloe Manor.
