Chateau d'Auvers by busylady

Chateau d'Auvers

It was Issi's picture of the church in Auvers which alerted me to the fact that she lived near to one of the places we were planning to visit in France. We didn't have time to make a tour of the inside of the Chateau but the outside was magnificent. It was in this town that Van Gogh spent the last 70 days of his life and his most prolific. He painted 80 paintings during this time. We had time to visit the Van Gogh museum for a most interesting tour and some of the sites he painted here. We must come again to experience the Auberge Ravoux which has been recreated/preserved in the style of the 1890's when Vincent would have been there. The whole town is like a memorial to him and we noticed lots of school groups of all ages doing tours.
It looks just like a French Chateau and a shame you couldn't visit but time waits for no man!
