Rusty old train

We went to visit an old coal mine, 'stone coal' to be exact, and were transported down the mine on a small train. Not this one thankfully! I found it quite scary as the tunnel was narrow and low, and the train rattled along at quite a pace. I'm not good at being underground at the best of times but when our guide announced - in German - that we were going to descend a further 90 metres on foot, I wanted out! That wasn't possible however as we weren't returning to the train. Suffice to say that I was glad when we eventually found our way to the surface! The coal they mined here was only good enough for domestic purposes not for industrial use. It was the most realistic mine tour I've been on and I'm not sure I'll ever take another one!

Great shot. I can feel your anxiety, I'm not keen on going underground either, especially in confined spaces !

They are spooky -- we went to a gold mine in South Africa and were so deep -- all I could think of was all that land above us. Miners are so brave!

I feel your anxiety !!-- not a pleasant experience being in narrow tunnels underground -- and the capture of this rusty old train would not give you confidence !

Sounds like something from an Indiana Jones movie! I'd have loved it.

Brilliant capture of the rusty old train. I am not good in small spaces either.

Well done for completing the tour. Glad this wasn't the train you went in.

@neiljohns That's exactly what your Dad said - that it reminded him of an Indiana Jones movie!

Just looking at your photo, made me feel admiration for miners, then I read your narrative. Miners deserve the best pay in the world!
