This is the oldest wooden church in the world! A delightful building which dates back to Saxon times. The nave in the centre is constructed from 51 ancient oak logs, split lengthwise. The chancel was rebuilt in brick around 1500 and the thatched roof replaced with tiles. It is still in use today and thriving as a village church near Ongar in Essex. Thank you for all your favs on my pic yesterday, always a thrill to see one on the PP!
