The beach at Hokatika is very long and covered with driftwood. I haven't captured much of it here but I was taken with this piece which reminded me of a camel! We walked the length of the beach and met a man who told us that they have a competition where they invite people to create sculptures from the driftwood. We saw the remains of some of them. We also met a lady processing her catch of Australian salmon or kohawai (not sure of the spelling!) She had a bucket full of large fish.
Lovely driftwood....I am looking at the colour of the sand....quite pale for the west coast. The beaches near my son on the North Island west coast are very volcanic.
