Підтримай Україну. Протест проти російської агресії.
If Google translate got that right the caption reads "Support Ukraine. Protest Russian aggression" in Ukrainian. What is happening in the Ukraine is an affront to the democratic world and a human tragedy of epic proportions. I know that war, genocide and human tragedy are, sadly, not uncommon in this sorry world but when it involves a belligerent superpower with a nuclear arsenal almost daring another superpower with a nuclear arsenal to try and stop them it threatens to engulf the rest of the world in the unthinkable. That likely won't happen, the west will pile on the sanctions, Putin will shrug and continue his takeover of the Ukraine, this will all fade into the mist of history and life will go on. Sadly, that may be the best outcome . But not for the Ukrainians of course.
This flag is flying at Richmond City Hall in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
And if the sanctions really do succeed in crippling Russia do you think Putin will hesitate to rattle his nuclear saber again, just because there have been no ‘boots on the ground’ ? People act as if Putin will follow some set of rules, when has he ever done that?
Unfortunately solidarity and protests and sanctions don't help. It takes a man with balls and a gun and a bullet. It is so overwhelming to sit and watch the superpowers acknowledge the issue and not do anything about it.
It's such a heartbreaking situation. I'm concerned that his takeover will not end with Ukraine and that he may not share other world leaders reservations about using nuclear weapons.
