Camp Nelson National Cemetery is located in Jessamine County, Kentucky, just a few miles from where I live. I've visited and photographed it several times. I find it to be such a tranquil and beautiful setting....so fitting for the heroes that are buried there.
Today I think of my Daddy who served in the Navy during World War II. As children, my sisters and I loved to hear about the places he saw, the things he did while he was in service. We found it fascinating. But until we were adults I don't think we grasped how brave he was to leave at such a young age to face so many uncertainties. I'm sure he didn't think twice about enlisting. He felt it was his duty.
I learned so much from him -- not just from the fascinating stories he told -- but about sacrifice, dedication, and pride. He was proud to serve and I am thankful, not only for everything he did for me, but what he did to preserve our country's freedom.
My Daddy is buried in a quiet, peaceful place in the country. He rests with honor.
A lovely tribute shot to honor our Veterans today. Love the thought that 'they rest with honor'. The courage and bravery of those who have fought and served to preserve our freedom humbles me. Thanks for sharing your personal memories of your Daddy.
You said so well and this image honors him!!
