I just love this scene - it’s a favourite part of my walk in this fabulous place, called the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. There are superb jogging and walking paths within. Today the reflections were particularly vivid and clear.

Thanks, Jessica! And thank you for your interest in this intriguing place.
Pamplemousses is the area, the district, in which it is situated; and over the years, it’s casually become known as Pamplemousses Garden. But it’s officially named after a long-ago deceased politician, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, shortened to SSR. The garden has a rich and vibrant history. Slaves were sold here, it was the private residence of quite a few colonial rulers of the time.
A very short version of its long and illustrative history:
The garden is named after Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, a key figure in the country’s political history.
Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere. It was founded in 1736 during Mauritius’ colonial period.
Originally established as a private garden by Pierre Poivre, a French horticulturist, it became a national botanical garden during the British colonial era. It spans 37 hectares and has an extensive collection of indigenous and exotic plant species.

Thank you - I live in the surrounding area, but more to the north of the island, in an area called Pointe Aux Cannoniers. This garden is about a 10-15 minute drive depending on the traffic. (Which has become atrocious over the past few years. Too many cars and vehicles for this tiny island.)
