The Black Backed Woodpecker's range is mainly in Canada and Alaska on the Western Hemisphere. I'm not sure if they inhabit any area outside of this. I saw this at it's very southern limits to it's range. We were so excited to get to see this female, but I was even more excited when it moved to a tree which had good lighting.
