March Fly by daisymiller

March Fly

Even though snow is forecast for mid week, Spring must be close. I was surprised to see sap literally dripping down the bark of one of the maple trees in the backyard. I put my ear about three inchess away from the tree and could even hear the dripping sap. The flies came out today and were drinking the sap. I kept looking at the sap and saying, "Amazing!"

This photo continues the week long series of working on the backgrounds of macro shots. In this case, I thought the backtround was important. I rotated the shot to better show off the probiscus of the fly, but I also wanted to hsow off the dark line on the tree bark (the line of tree sap).
Impressive shot. I like the colors and the story along with the photo.

I think this works as a great back drop for your macro. Good idea to turn it too- the fly stands out much better this way.

@olivetreeann Thanks. I took shots just of the sap running down the bark, but I liked the fly included in the shot. (even though flies can be such pests).
