@rhoing yes, in the delivery room. Fortunately, my DIL, asked me to be there both times.

@rickster549 yes, I was amazed at all the things they do to the newborn within the first hour. He did get a brief respite on mom's tummy after birth and before all the procedures. I guess they used to do all that once they whisked away the baby.
