Today, my husband and I took a nice long walk with our dog Foxy with the goal of getting some shots of a property that has acquired some of the old Mansell Farm "barns" from across the street (there has been a land acquisition that I've never really understood in this area, but the old Mansell property was once a large farm with livestock--it was "condemned" to put the current Elementary School where my youngest is about to graduate). Anyway, there has been "barn movement" from one side of the street to another--I'm just glad it has not been torn down.
But you say, this is not a picture of a barn! Well, my photos didn't come out as nice as I'd like, and I had the wrong lens, so I'll take another visit and give you all some Urban-Ex later!
On our walk, I captured lovely cherry blossoms, pear tree blossoms (although, I confess, I really detest Pear trees -- so stinky), cardinals, cedar waxwings, a European-collared dove (huge!), a hawk flying above, some mockingbirds on wires, horses in a corral, abandoned road signs and mailboxes. Let's just say, it was a long, slow walk because I found something of interest each step of the way.
When we arrived at home, our children leaned out our open window in the office and yelled, "Where have you beeeeen? We thought you abandoned us!" Ah, to be missed.
I chose this capture today because my husband asked me if I had ever seen an Eastern Bluebird when I took photos--I told him I had only captured one and not very well--and then low and behold, guess who appeared in the clearing? I know Easter is tomorrow, so for those of you who celebrate, enjoy your day!
@foxsparrow Thanks Ann--it really was high-key (yes, sort of by accident because I didn't look at my other setting for the previous shots that were NOT high key), but all I had to do was crop and play with exposure and shadow some--the white was already there!
@foxsparrow Sorry, I don't think that made any sense--I meant that the pics I took just before were in a shaded area, so I had opened things up. Then I saw this guy and started shooting before realizing it might flood the shot--turned out it was a perfect fit!
Totally amazing shot, I cant believe how many wonderful birds you have at your disposal, keep them coming Daryl you are so good at these, I look forward to your shots every day. Happy Easter.
@jo13 Thanks so much Jo. If I look back on the first person I followed after the friend I joined with and it was you. I look for your photo every day and love learning from you and sharing our photos across that great big pond. Have a lovely Easter! It's warm here--I sure hope it's warming there!
@cjainmd Thanks! I did my first "intentional" high key during ONS4, but this one was accidental--I was worried that the bluebird would be washed out, but it was perfect (well, focus was not perfect, but perfect for me)! Whew!
