View large to see if you can spot them (admittedly, I can only see them with the magnifying glass mode in LR)!
Today, the sun came out! I'm continuing my work with the "mono" setting on my camera, which means I can only capture a black and white photo and cannot switch to color; therefore, the processing with anything I've done in the past week or so has been limited to what I can do with light, tones, contrasts, clarity, and focus. If I want color, I have to manually add it in (like I did with my Morning Mum shot http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-09-23 earlier in the week for the ETSOOI color/colour theme http://365project.org/darylo/didn-t-make-cut/2013-09-23. It's all manually added.).
It has been a very good lesson because what I choose in manual settings determines the final product. My ISO and aperture settings matter more than before. Many of you know I love moving targets, so I use shutterspeed as a priority often. With mono, shutterspeed is a consideration, but not as much as the others.
I've also learned that if I push myself this way, my post processing is much less involved because I'm trying to achieve as much as possible before loading the photo into LR5. I've been very pleased with this self push!
Today's photo has a flare (well almost a double) in it! Can you see where? My goal in this photo was to capture the light and provide the various tones to provide contrast against where light hits! These are the canna lilies (sp?) my daughters and I planted this summer; they decided to go for another round of blooms.
Oh and thanks very much for putting both my Morning Mum and ETSOOI colored version on the PP this week. What a lovely surprise. :)
this is beautiful black and white photography-- I see the water drops and maybe the flares but the composition is so striking I'm happy just looking at the shapes and contrasts -- you definitely caught the light.
@grammyn It's on the lightest color petal and on the left of it. Really, it has to be enlarged to see, but they are clear as bells when enlarged. I didn't know how it might look on 365. Ok, I'm going to share a little "eeeeek!" with you...I'm in the top 5 of the Theme: Four! I'm just thrilled that my little mono experiment (and the visit to the grocery store) yielded being a finalist. What a week of mono! And sun flare/hot dog points to you. You have been so encouraging this week for me. I really appreciate it.
@luvmynynix THanks so much Laurie. I'm pretty excited because tonight I saw my "4 Scale" in the top 5 tonight for the "Theme: Four" Mono has been good to me this week.
@espyetta It's to hard to see on the site, unfortunately, but enlarged in LR, you can see two flares on the lightest petal (on the left of it). Sort of excited as one of my mono shots ended up in the final five of theme: four! :) Eeek. :)
@rvwalker Thanks so much Ross! I'm loving the experimentation, and I'm pretty excited that one of my mono shots are up for vote for Theme: four. What a week.
@catwoman2 the flares are admittedly too little to see without enlarging a good bit. Thanks so much for your comment. I'm loving the mono work--especially with light and contrast. :)
@grammyn Thanks so much Katy. I love that photo because it was the day so many things "came together" in my head and much of it because of our conversations. Really appreciate your 365 friendship.
I just realized I don't know much about flare... is it the spots on the leaves?
That's so cool that both mums hit the PP.
