In preparation for visitors to our home Thursday (Thanksgiving), I went outside to tidy up the garden around our cement patio in the backyard. I also had two bags of topsoil and potting soil that needed to be used up, so I cleared out the area of old plants and put in the soil for our new plants (thinking pansies).
This leggy millipede was in the bag, and if you hit that magnifying glass, you'll see a tiny tick (I think) hanging on to him too! Not sure he's very alive, to be honest; he barely recoiled when I messed with him and flipped him over to see his legs. Hopefully he'll be good food for a bird?
The colorful and rustful background is the top of an old milk can that my daughter painted when she was a little girl (for yard art). Still one of my favorite items.
Off to pick up leaf bags so I can finish the gardening in prep for our big holiday. My get-pushed partner has asked me to cover Thanksgiving for my challenge--so I'll try to do it justice
@mzzhope So THAT is what a deer tick looks like! I have seen all kinds of ticks and I thought it looked too small (I know it's common up north, but not so much here). May have to put it further back in woods! It was in the top soil bag. Wonder where the soil originated? Hmmmm. Thanks for the fav!
@taffy Thanks! I used my tripod...trying to get more used to using it. But it was more like me dipping a dancing partner for this one as I cradled the tripod and lowered it toward the subject. Could go for one of those slidey things @jo13 told me about one time for the macro clip I use.
@taffy I don't even know what one is! But I'm making a Christmas list. So far, I have lens hoods, some filters, a new camera bag, a proper camera cleaning, and new lens caps (I've lost them ALL) on the list. Should I add a gorillapod? :)
Google it to see, but I think so given your macro shots. It's very flexible and it holds my Nikon with a zoom on it. I have had it for years but never used it and now realize how handy it is for oddly placed things.
@taffy I will! It's nice to chat in real time! I left you a message on your awesome Chicago freeze out shot to ask for pointers doing a night skyline shot (will attempt this week in the ATL hopefully). That's why I'm taking my tripod around with me. Want to feel comfortable as I won't have another opportunity soon! I am really hoping to channel the Taffy touch! :)
One of the differences between Chilopoda (centipedes) and Diplpoda (millipedes) is that the former have one pair of legs per body segment and the latter have two. This photo shows two, so we can be confident in labelling it more a Millipede than a Centipede.
Next question, did you get a photo of the upside part?
Oh and nice tick. No need for the magnifying glass, that tick is large enough.
@markp Hehe. And I told my husband the other day my favorite comment to get on 365 is "cracking shot Daryl!" And there you did it! Thanks for making my day. :) I love your puns too.
@danette Thanks Danette. I know, the bug is kinda icky. Ever since I got my macro, though, I have such a deep appreciation for bugs. They do so much! :) But they are sorta creepy too. They just have to stay outside!
@amrita21 I will see what I can do Amrita. It's a big holiday coming up here and I'm working on get-pushed too, so if I see something today, I'll try. So sorry!

Would really appreciate an entry for the etsooi challenge. Still a day to go!
