I'm still just getting to processing some of the photos I took at the beach during spring break. The gulls in the area really were quite fun to stalk, and as most of you know, I feel quite chuffed when a bird shot "tells a story." This was one of those times for me. The contrasting black and white and then the red beaks (not so evident, though--may be a bit of overkill on processing), well, they are a great subject to "try" and catch. All birders know that's not a simple thing. Lucky day April 8th. :)
Instant fav Daryl! The range of narratives here is fantastic -- so many word bubbles come to mind in looking at the image and the processing is striking. BTW, thanks for the comment on the "night falls..." shot!
@mzzhope The processing on this was ok as the idea was to wash out some of the detail in the sand so the contrasting shapes were the focus. So I did use some radial filters to keep the detail on the birds after I took the exposure up a notch. I took this shot in FULL sunlight, so I had a lot going for me with just the shot (rare). I tried to "heal" a few sand spots, but left the ones in the middle to give some context (on a beach, obviously). And last, I used a bit of white vignetting as it's an easy cheat. :) I'm learning as I go. Luckily, LR5 gives me the "history" of my moves (all of the trial and error).
@taffy Totally agree. I'll have to think on those bubbles! I don't know how to do that...I wish I had more time to comment. I really appreciate you visit. I'm off to bed now. I have so much more to process from this trip--oh, and I have three great shots of this couple--a progressing conversation if you will. If I can only find the time to get it in! I wonder what I will do with May? I've been "theming it" since Feb. and I'm at a loss!
@darylo I know what you mean re time...barely have been on the past several days. Your photo was at the top of my stream and I'm glad it was! Re May -- I've thought about Minimalist May, Minimalist May Mondays...for what it's worth.
