Relay for Life

I have spent most of the weekend at the Franklin Relay for Life - a biennial fundraiser for Cancer Research. Teams enter, and raise funds by walking for 18 hours (4pm until 10am). Someone (or often more than one) from the team must be on the 400 metre track throughout the duration of the relay. Teams bring along tents and marquees, and many of the team members stay overnight, taking brief sleeping stints as they can. It is an amazing experience and our team has completed 6 relays over the years. We have had a core of team members since the beginning and along with other fundraising events, raffles etc, have managed to raise over $100,000 since 2006.
A huge 'Pat on the Back' for you and your team.. because of you all a huge amount of money has been raised for Cancer Research.. It is very humbling to think you would do this for those who have suffered or have lost the battle... a huge fav..

Lovely shot and well done you for the money you have raised. I found out today that the daughter in law of a friend of mine has just been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

@onewing I've had thyroid cancer, and they say 'it's the cancer to get if you have to get cancer'. Lucky the recovery rate is up around 95%! I wish her well.

@888rachel Thanks Rachel I did know the success rate was good. I had my thyroid removed 13 years ago because I had about 24 nodules on it. Luckily none were cancerous though. I am sure she will be fine, just a bit of a shock for them at the moment. Her husband has just moved back to Australia a month ago after working in Vietnam for the WWF for 12 years and his wife and children are still there.
