Killing the bugs! by dide

Killing the bugs!

In NZ we have a problem with kauri dieback disease. It attacks our large native kauri trees and kills them. Some bush areas have been closed off to the public, while others have special cleaning stations at either end of the tracks. Here is Chook getting ready to clean and disinfect his boots, as the microorganism that carries the disease is spread through soil from infected areas.
We visited such a place on our last trip to NZ. They’re an incredible tree!

We went through one of these last year when we visited Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest. Is that where this one is?

Nice shot... Makes me think back to a visit we had to a cave in the US years ago... in that instance they had tubs of alcohol to clean shoe bottoms with the intention of protecting the bat population living inside the cave.

A sad state of affairs...NZ is the Kauri tree...such wonderful tall trees...I do hope you can stamp it out over time. Good precautions in place !

Glad that there is an effort to try to save the trees. Something small that is out of hand can do devastating damage. Same is true with human life.

What an excellent idea - we will all be used to that with the masks and the cleaning of hands etc.

An unfortunate necessity, but so glad to have them if they help!
