On our last night there the entire group went for a walk to the beach after dark looking for ghost crabs, and we literally saw hundreds of them. The kids were fascinated how they were all over the beach. Another experience to add to the memory book. Filling up a few holes, sorry.
@nana Nancy, basically these creatures remain burrowed in the sand during the hottest parts of the day, and since they come out primarily at night, and because of their pale color, they are referred to as ghost crabs, or also commonly called sand crabs
@grammyn Katy it was fun. My Daughter was holding a flashlight, so I would have her hold the light till I focused, then said turn it off and I would shoot a flash
@digitalrn - Ah . . . thanks for the information. I grew up in Southern California and we used to dig in the sand to find them during the day. We only ever called them sand crabs though. I've never heard the ghost crab term. Interesting.
