I found this interesting documentary on Vivian Maier, a Chicago-based nanny who took over 100,000 photos during her lifetime but developed precious few. Her work was discovered after her death and much of it has subsequently been made available to the public. I saw a documentary film on her called 'Finding Vivian Maier', that further sparked my interest in her. She would take her camera with her while out and about with the children she took care of, and many of her shots are in street style: http://video.pbs.org/video/2324870756/
Thanks for posting this link, Laura! @Mara told us about it awhile back and @Taffy and I went to see the film . . . IN Highland Park theatre. We were surrounded by murmurs throughout by people who were not photographers but perhaps were talking about remembering her.
@jyokota wow I'd say that was a fascinating experience! I'll be spending a couple of days in Chicago in September, I'll have to try to channel my inner Vivian on the streets!
There's another must-see film about this photographer that I think is British. More about her life and process than the one in theaters now. Check it out: www.vivianmaiermysterymovie.com
Thank you so much for the link. I love Vivian Maier's work. It was fascinating to learn more about her life and to see so many of her photographs. What an interesting person she was!
Thanks for flagging this up. I read about Vivienne Maier in the newspaper and I'm trying to find a cinema where the film is showing.
