I feel like I've been improving a lot and growing so much since I joined this site so I wanted to share my first picture and my newest picture and I'd love for you to do the same. Thank you for such a supportive and fun community and critiques and support I love this :) Have a good day

Blurry.. no real attention to light.. still one of my favorites but had no clue about settings.

Taken yesterday.. more attention to light and depth of field. I'm proud of this one, but just more excited that I can see improvement w/ my pictures.

Your turn!

Ironically, they are both shots around the house. The first because it was too cold to go out. And today it is nearly 100 degrees.

Ooh I think I have come a long way. My first photo, valentines day, was trying to figure out how to use the camera. Random shot, out of focus.

I didn't know how to use any settings other than auto when I started and I certainly wouldn't have attempted a macro. I have learnt about DOF and although I've got a lot to learn still realise that I've improved no end. I shoot a lot of stuff on aperture priority and would like to progress further with a DSLR which I'm thinking about buying in the next 6 months or so. This pic of the toadstools is not actually one of my best but it is one I posted today. Have a look at some of my other river pics to see some better ones

First shot, auto setting & maual focus

Using both manual setting & focus, learning heaps on here
June 23rd, 2012
@meagang This one I processed in Picmonkey. I love when people use those warm dreamy tones, I don't have photoshop, so I just tried to make something similar to what I saw in other projects. I just play with all different edit options until I like it. :-)

I do think that I have improved in the past 6 months but I am sure that I was capable of taking a much better shot for my first one. Trouble is I was suffering from a bit of a New Year's Day hangover at the time but really wanted to start on 1st January

Or is that a secret I need to find six months down the road ha ha :) @gareauk1 So cute! Awesome job :) @notliz Beautiful.. I love the post processing in your latest. Great job!
June 25th, 2012
@meagang That's so sweet of you!
June 25th, 2012
Meagan, the 'secret' is an ND filter to allow you to get long exposures which in this case helped me get the smooth water effect. Other times, it gives me more of a misty/foggy look. It really depends on the movement of the water. This one was 30 seconds. Have a read of this thread in which I gave some more info and also has some great examples of others work:

Long Exposures - Water
