Will confirm which day, but 15 pictures have been requested for the Daily Telegraph this weekend. Saturday or Sunday - will confirm which. So excited by that news.
Huge, huge thanks for all your encouragement - I'm sure that gave me the confidence to approach them. BIG THANKS LOVELY PEOPLE.
I'm SO glad! Hope you're being compensated. I was just looking at your swan collection and thinking they should be compiled and published somewhere. What a coffee table book you could make.
@yoelao@nikkers@rich57 Thanks Guys- this is super important for me. So grateful for the encouragement.
For those not of the UK, the DT is like the top national quality paper. I usually read another one but if ever I want quality stats and detail, whatever your politics, you might look to the DT - which is a bit conservative - perfect for the family story these swans offer. I'm grateful to them for giving me a break.
@carrapeta00 No Lara. I just prepared a story that was emerging from taking the pics and knew the only way that I could justify more time on this (I'm desperately broke) was if I could earn money. So, I prepared a slide show of them on Picasa with commentary, had my list of photo editors to contact and started with the best paper first. I told him the story and offered my slide show. I sent this and he emailed me back saying 'yes, send the rest when they're done', which I did the middle of last week. But it was so helpful to find out here what worked for people and having the interest that was here to respond to even when I was taking the pics. Having the story and a theme and illustrating it (family) helped.
@miranda For some crazy reason I was not following you and so did not get to see this wonderful story unfold. I've just spent the last however long catching up and what a amazing moving story you have told. Huge congrats on the story being taken up by the DT, you will have to let us know which day they will be in so we can all buy it.
@emmar84 that's so sweeeeeet of you and ...I can't believe it. I feel a little embarrassed knowing that it is these gorgeous creatures that got themselves there but also very grateful to everyone for putting me there too. It's heavenly! And also lovely of you to be so joyful!! Thank you.
Yes... congratulations for all the pics in PP and front page... Also congrats for putting a good effort in the projects you believe. Your pics are amazing...
@carrapeta00 Bradford on Avon - it's one family. I've been following them since they first laid their eggs, at first a few point and shoots and then, once they'd got all their six eggs, I was down there nearly every day. I have, I think, an obsessive compulsive disorder!!! Ha ha ha. Good to channel it into something.
@robinwarner Robin. What plans have you for your photographs? It's lots of stories within a story... Wondered if you could also interview and write about some of the guys you've photographed and pull together a wonderful illustrated article. You must let me know if you do the same. Thanks for that lovely boost above.
I was travelling and didn´t have much time to read all the stories about the baby swans... was looking at the album now... will take a special time to go through all of them tomorrow... your pics are lovely... ;)
Have a good time with your work selection the 15 pics... I will be looking forward more beautiful pics from you ;)
That is awesome, awesome news! YAAAAAY! However I gotta say, I'm not surprised at all ;) Your photos of this swan family are incredible and tell their story so well!!
@judithg I've done Afrcian shots for newsletters, journals, BBC a couple of times, a big Christmas Appeal in the Independent - but these were donated to a charity so I didn't attach any significance to it. This is my first paid and published.
A very well-deserved congratulations to you, Miranda!!! Please post a link when it's published - I so hope it will be available for all of us to see online! (I still think a children's book would be wonderful, too!)
Congratulations - I'd not seen your swan album before, and just went back to have a look and it's absolutely gorgeous - the pictures and the stories too - congratulations - and very well deserved!
Congratulations! I'm glad to see they recognized all the work you've put into this. I agree you should definitely try to publish your photos of the swans, they are all so beautiful!
I'm so happy for you!!! You're such a wonderful artist, and your swan photos should be seen by more people--they are so unique and utterly beautiful!!! Congratulations!!! :-)
