The use of Ai in photography has been around for some time in its simpler and milder applications of replacing a sky or erasing cars and other unwanted additions to a photo. Using it to create an entirely new image “from scratch” has opened a flood of debate as to whether or not it’s “your image” or just “your idea”, or neither since all Ai programs produce their images by “scraping” other images off the world-wide web. I confess, I have not come to a conclusion about the latter, but have certainly used the former. However, with all that being said, I must say it is FUN to toss some words into an Ai program and see what it comes up with- which is what this challenge is all about.
This challenge was created by John Walton @lumpiniman who described it as “an interesting challenge that would give members a written text description of an image and then invite them to use that text to generate an image from any program they decided to use.”
The image provided by your Ai program can be submitted as is, or you can further process it to your liking. That is up to you. What’s up to me, is to choose a set of words that will give you the ability to produce a wide variety to images to play with.
There are several free Ai sites that allow you to enter a prompt/text which they will in turn create an image. Here are some of them:
The usual rules for all our 365 challenges will apply; you may enter any number of images, however, only one entry per photographer can be included in the list of finalists. Please feel free to attach entries to this thread to keep the thread active and hopefully encourage others to take part in the challenge.
Starting date – June 8, 2024

Here's a sample for you-
So, jump in the Ai pool and take a swim- it's really fun!
@photohoot In the first round you used all the prompts provided by the host. I guess we should continue with that format. (Although I don't mind if you take one out- just make note of it somewhere.)
@olivetreeann Your sample is so stunning Ann, I tried all three above and they always seem to come up with the same. Did you use a different one, or
is it just your editing talent :-)
@ludwigsdiana I did not edit this one Diana- it's straight out of Ai. I think I used Image2go but I don't remember. I tried it again and got completely different images! I love yours though with the Milky Way in the sky. The other one that seems to come up with some interesting images is Craiyon. Night Studio Cafe also has an Ai function- which is also a possibility come to think of it!
@ludwigsdiana By the way- the Photo Shop Ai programs were highly prized in some of the comments on several of these articles. So you've got a good one to work with there.
I had so much fun today, never thought I would do this. I tried all the free online ai generators. Way too many fabulous results with "canva multi media" which I used here.
@juliedduncan I think they're quite magical- but I'm glad you love "creepy" Julie!
@lumpiniman It's my understanding from what I've been reading that the more specific you are, the better the image, so may specifying what kind of clock face you want might help?? I don't know!
@olivetreeann I wondered if you all put the same words into the same program, you would all get the same image - but presumably not. I wonder what "moves it on", so to speak?
@anniesue I was curious about that too Annie-Sue, so I tried it- totally different pictures! I'm not sure if these programs are based on algorithms or what- but I do understand that they gather images from the internet when they generate yours. It's called "scraping" and the program technically "steals" images and blends them together to make a new one if I understand the technical vernacular correctly.

First Effort from me.
@ludwigsdiana Looking forward to your creation!
is it just your editing talent :-)
This was done on Gencraft, a free online image generator. The shadows were brightened on the lower parts of the photographs.
We already knew that facial features and hands were not generally good on AI-generated images. I think clock faces can be added to that list.

@ludwigsdiana @mittens They are addictive, aren't they?!
