Flashback Friday - 15 October 2021

PHOTOGRAPHY QUOTE OF THE WEEK: โ€œThe eye should learn to listen before it looks.โ€ - Robert Frank

This challenge is open to everyone. Once you have taken 30 or more photos the flashback link will appear in the box below "View this month" under "Photo Details" on your page. Hopefully, as we go back in time we will see that our photography skills have improved and maybe even have a laugh or two at what we once thought was good enough to post.

About posting, as long as it is Friday somewhere in the world you can post. Or if you would like you can wait until it is Friday where you live, that is fine too.

How does it work?
Click the Flashback View link and it will take you to one of your past photos.

Use the first image it gives you, even if you aren't too fond of it! That way we can see how much you have progressed in your photography skills while on the Project.

To share: Underneath your photo is a curved arrow to the right (โžฆ). Click on the arrow and there will be an "Embed Code". Copy the code then paste it in the comment box below adding any comments if you wish to do that.

Thank you for participating. I hope that looking back stirs fond memories as well as possibly bringing a smile to your face!

This goes back 6 years to August 2015. And, I'm still struggling to get a shot, down the throat of a morning glory, that satisfies me.

I am glad this photo came up as I still like it.

I am sure the magic monkeys that pick these flashback images are cleverer than we think. Today I have been out and about taking photographs of the river Mersey and the Silver Jubilee bridge. This image was taken from the Silver Jubilee bridge, way back in November 2013 !!

In fact this pub, the Mersey Hotel ( or the Snig as it's known locally), is the white building near the centre of my post today.

@gardencat - Don't be discouraged Joanne. I read an article about Alan McFadyen who wanted to get the perfect shot of a Kingfisher diving into the water. He estimates it took some 4,200 hours and 720,000 exposures before he got THE photo.

My wife and I just got home from a trip to Indiana/Illinois for our granddaughter's wedding. We stayed in Indiana and made it into a mini vacation. We found a covered bridge that reminded me of the bridge in today's photo. I wonder what the odds of that happening?

October 15th, 2021
@skipt07 Yeah, but morning glories unlike diving kingfishers donโ€™t move also, I think I know what I need to do to get a better shot but it would involve focus stacking with a lot of images taken under constant light conditions and either with no wind outside or inside where these flowers tend to droop quickly and Iโ€™ve been too lazy to get that organized.

@granagringa - When I read this quote I thought, that's the one for today. But then after I posted it I thought, "I wonder what he meant?" I did some searches and found some people's ideas of what Frank might have meant. But then a Bible verse came to mind, "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." Then I thought maybe Frank was saying that when something catches our eye that instead of quickly snapping a picture we should take more time looking at the subject at different angles and change focal lengths to get a better picture?

@mcsiegle I still haven't looked back to see how dreadful they are yet!!
