Having completed a lens test, I've concluded that my kit lens (Sony 3.5 18-135mm) is no longer sharp enough. I'm not ready to upgrade to the Sony A6000 yet so I will stay with my Alpha 57 for a bit longer and use a Minolta 50mm AF lens as my primary go to for now.
@gardencat Fearless Leader too vane to let them disappear completely, he probably will just ban them from certain locations and get them to pay for it.
Kit lenses are just made to sell cameras. Recently, I came across the kit lens that came with my first DSLR. I couldn't believe how shoddy it felt in my hands. It's a good sign of your progress as a photographer that you are ready to make the leap to a better lens. But it hasn't seemed to dampen your creativity. Keep up the good work. Or just consider your current lens to be alternative glass.
@domenicododaro I need their email- no wait can't, they might sell may browsing history.
@mbrutus Sometimes I feel that with each 'growth' step we loose something. This time, nope. I am happy to figure these things out and move forward.
@stephanies I will keep my 'kitter' for specific soft shots but the sharper and faster 50mm will be my go to until I can afford a 18-55mm that is in my price range. Tough to let go of a old friend.
@pickerandagrinner Thank you very kindly for the fav. I bought a used Minolta AF 50mm lens for the camera (Sony A37) that I converted to IR but I like it's sharpness much more than the kit lens. I finally did the lens test and confirmed my belief that I need to use the 50mm as my go-to lens.
