We had a break in the weather today and I went for a walk at St. Julians Bay. This was once a quiet fishing village. My mother used to tell me that when she was a little girl, her aunt had a boat house very close to where I took this picture and it is the area where she learnt how to swim in the mid 1930's. She used to indicate a shingle beach half way out in the middle of the bay now replaced by a concrete breakwater just a few meters away from where I shot this sundial stuck to the side of a balcony.
The first curious thing I noticed is that half of it is never used and yet 24 hours were painted onto the face. Then I noticed something strange about the Roman numerals. I realised that from where I was shooting the whole dial was fixed upside down..... it bothered me and at home I continued to think how or why would someone fix it the wrong way.... and then it struck me that the sundial was not meant to be read from my end but... from the balcony itself. There you have it right side up time:)
