During yesterday's walk I took several pictures of the historic lighthouse in Delimara. Just below the lighthouse to the south east are a number of salt pans which according to a sign, posted at and blocking the entrance, are still in use. Further down towards St Peter's Pool however the pans were accessible and it is where I captured the two features of the area. The rocks in the mid section of the picture were glistening with overland flow from the surrounding fields. This rainwater was channeled away from the salt pans and directed towards the sea.
Delimara Lighthouse was built between 1852 and 1854 during the British period and is the last remaining free-standing lighthouse on Malta, the only other one in the country being the Ta' Giordan lighthouse on Gozo. It was commissioned by Governor Richard More O'Ferrall in 1850.
Great pov and edit. I was close to Delimara last Winter when I was hiking around St Peter's Pool but did pass beyond the power station as it was time for me to return home. I had promised myself that the next time I would start with the lighthouse but I have not kept my promise yet.
