Mile End by elza

Mile End

An interesting spot at the limits of my home town known as Mile-End as it is one mile away from Valletta. This area saw the first fly-over in Malta. I still remember the policeman with large white cuffs in the middle of the junction directing traffic. The Chapel, seen here, is dedicated to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, adjacent to the Central House of the Society of Christian Doctrine M.U.S.E.U.M., was redecorated in 2001 to house the sacred remains of Saint George Preca (1880 - 1962), who was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 9th May 2001 in Malta and canonised by Pope Benedict XVI on 3rd June 2007 in Rome. https://www.sdcmuseum.org/Page.aspx?pv=fVAL1qAblI8=&menu=2
I've seen a historic photo of the statue at the top (Christ) being flown and lowered onto the dome by a British navy helicopter. The bronze statue of St. Cajetan of Thiene, the patron saint of the town was added a few months ago.
Good shot and interesting info
