Aaaaaargh!!

This is my iMac screen. Ever since I installed the 'Mavericks' operating system in November, all of my software has been on a 'go slow'. It seems to be a problem amongst my friends with slightly older Macs that despite information to the contrary, they cannot cope with the new system. This is the second time I have disconnected everything and lugged it into the Apple shop. Last time the fix did not work. This time the more radical solution was an 'erase and instal' putting my original operating system of OSX Lion back on again.

This basically means the Mac is taken back to factory settings and every piece of software and data ever installed is permanently deleted. To return it to how my Mac usually looks and performs, every single piece of software ever installed from disc or downloaded from the internet has to be reinstalled. This screen shot was taken after 2-hours of work at home. I finished for the day (or rather the next day) at 1.40am and then started again the following day for another 5-6 hours. I'm nearly there now.

The only thing I can say is that this time the radical solution seems to have worked and the speed is much better. In addition, somehow the memory available has increased by over 70GB… not sure what I have forgotten to put back on?!

So the moral of this story to all my 365 friends is... DO NOT INSTAL MAVERICKS if you have a Mac over 2-years or so old.
And I thought everything Apple was perfect. Sorry for your hardship!

Sounds extremely frustrating Emma, I'd have been tempted tp put my fist through the screen. Glad you are almost there now ...
