This is my first successful attempt at speedlite flash photography using a honeycomb in bright sunlight outside! Settings - 68mm, f/11, ISO200, daylight WB and flash fired.
Today @taz_o and I went on the same course that @steampowered recommended a couple of months ago. It was an excellent course and I learnt more about my flash in the first hour or so than I knew over the past year!! I can thoroughly recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn more about their speedlight flash. This is Paul who was one of our fellow students on the day and who like all of us had to take his turn as model for the group.
Unfortunately the downside of the course is that it introduced me to yet more interesting kit that could be very useful in the future….!
@steampowered I passed on your regards to John today - what a fantastic course. He said to tell you that he is just waiting for the dates for the day of photography with models and you are top of the list! I DO like the honeycomb thing Mmmm!
This is a lovely portrait of Paul--he looks like such a very nice person. And I like the lighting! I need to learn more about flash at some point--just now I mostly avoid it. I wouldn't say that an introduction to yet more interesting kit is necessarily a bad thing--it should help Father Christmas figure out what to give you next December, for one thing ... :)
Fab shot - catchlights in the eyes, dark background - great!
I am so glad that you enjoyed the course. Thanks for saying "Hi!" to John for me. He's a great guy and "yes" because of this course I bought the Honl Photo Honeycomb grid and the Rogue Flash Bender (and I notice that Rogue do various honeycomb grids too).
Are you going to do the follow up course? I did and found it even more useful than the first one! Check out the gophototraining.co.uk website for "The Speedlight Studio - Shooting People Workshop"
As for the last course - that depends on where and how much it will cost but I am really tempted to go on it.
