This is the first day for a while that the weather forecast was for sun all day. I decided to take another trip up town to try and get the last few photograph for my new range of greeting cards. It also happened to be the last day that the Tall Ships are in town.
This is Greenwich - the facade of the Old Royal Naval College with a Tall Ship moored outside. What I like is that at this distance it is quite possible that this view could have been from 300 years ago... although I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have been a Canon camera recording the scene, rather J.M.W. Turner! I took this from the North Bank in a lovely little park called Island Gardens which also has an Caribbean cafe which provided me with a great lunch. The day went very well and I managed not only to get all the photos I needed but also I saw Tower Bridge open to let a boat through which is always an impressive sight.
Thanks to @Shanne I now know that the two ships are called Tectona (with sails up) and Excelsior.
I have an almost identical picture to this (which I was planning to post today - great minds think alike!) also taken at Island Gardens on Sunday and it struck me too that the scene could have been from hundreds of years ago. It works especially well in b&w I think.
@maggiemae Bit of a colloquialism 'up town'! Yes it is Greenwich in London which is a fascinating place and much easier to get to now we have the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) which is know for NOT having drivers! @paulaw Great Minds! I was a litre disappointed dare I say as I thought there would be more tall Ships but I understand they were moored in 4 places along the river.
cool shot - did you see my version? which I took from a boat - in colour with added texture from the boat's windows. That really looks like a painting from 300 years ago, except for the hundreds of crowded people behind
