Our second attempt at squirrel watching at Leaplish again. We are in luck as even when we walked in the hide there was a squirrel inside the feeder although it ran off as it heard us inside the hide. We sat with two women, one of which had some nuts which she threw out. After about 15 minutes another squirrel appeared and then a bird later a third one. Unlike yesterday the squirrels spent their time feeding and pottering around giving us all plenty of time all to get some photos. In addition the birds were still in abundance with chaffinches coming up to feed by hand.

After the excitement of the squirrels we continued onto Bellingham where we enjoyed an excellent cream scone tea in the ‘Carriages’ tearooms - two converted train carriages on a small length of tracks outside of a disused station. In the evening we headed to Kielder observatory for a trip that I had booked a number of months ago for a second attempt to star gaze and take astronomical photos. After our lack of success in the Atacama desert we were really hoping for clear skies. Unfortunately after all the recent rain it was not to be. However, we did have a brief break in the clouds which enabled us to see Saturn with her rings and two of her moons and I also had a good chat with another photographer who gave me some good tips. I guess we’ll try again in Australia next year- third time lucky?!
Make a wildlife photographer of you yet, think you need more speed and focal length.

Considering you have only 200mm to play with I think you've done a great job Emma Fav

@Padlock Cheeky git! I think you'll find that's a very fast lens! @rosiekind Thank you, to be honest as the squirrels were quite close to the hide any longer would have been too much. I was also carrying a 70-300mm DO lens (acquired from @Padlock) but I needed a faster lens as the light was low.
