A card delivery this morning and then off up town this afternoon. Colin had got tickets to the Tina Turner musical at the Aldwych theatre later in the day but we left just after lunch to make the most of the afternoon. At least we tried to but most trains were cancelled or delayed due to a fatality at Clapham Junction.
Eventually we got to High Street Kensington CIA the District line as I planned a visit to the Design Museum. When it was located on the South Bank at Butlers Wharf many years ago I went regularly when at college but it has now moved.
The building is very impressive architecturally but I’m afraid I was rather disappointed at the contents - it was not nearly as cutting edge or as interesting as I remembered. The upside was that we cut though Holland Park to the tube and I have never visited this London park before. It is an oasis with walled gardens, a Japanese water garden and wooded areas. Totally unexpected and a lovely area.
We went off diet and ate at Byron Burger in the Haymarket and then headed to the Strand. We unexpectedly met our old boss at the theatre which was a bit of a shock but the play was superb. Great acting, great sets and the singing was excellent. After the final bow by the cast, the Tina Turner actress sang another 3 songs with a real band and we were all up in our seats - a great show and a great evening.
