Today and tomorrow are the last two days of the Christmas ice rink at Hampton Court Palace. It is my third visit this season and each time I have enjoyed the hot chocolate, taken lots of photographs but managed to avoid actually going onto the ice (I have appalling co-ordination and balance!!).
I spent a very cold hour with my tripod taking long exposures, striving for another image for my Christmas cards later this year. I was going to use one of these but just as the skating session came to an end, the 'ice smoothing vehicle' - I have no idea what its technical name is - came onto the rink. It scrapes up the broken ice and sprinkles a thin layer of water onto the ice to refreeze and smooth the surface.
The Palace suddenly became reflected in the new shiny ice and has become todays photograph!
Emma, this is lovely and so timely your CD arrived this morning! I love how you can see the tracks of the "smoother" and the reflection at the same time!
@danette You could be right - I had no idea but when I googled 'Zamboni' they do look very similar (it had a Canadian flag on the side). You have some beautiful images in your project by the way :-)
