We are now on our last few days in Yellowstone National park, now staying in the Old Faithful area, primarily known for all the geyser and other geothermal activity. This is Daisy geyser which is one of the more predicable geysers in that it is possible to give an approximate time of eruption... so we thought, but we ended up waiting for nearly 1.5 hours. It got to the stage that we had been waiting for so long we could not leave as the odds of eruption were increasing with time. When 'she' finally erupted it was amazing, so powerful and the waiting for us and the other stoical watchers was well worth it!
On another note, we experienced 2-earthquakes within 4-hours this morning.
I have to admit to secretly wanting to experience a quake but obviously only a very small one with no damage to property or person. For friends in New Zealand I appreciate this is a bad thing to want (especially after trying out the simulator at the Te Papa museum) - sorry.
We were woken at 5.10am and I did not know why until a minute later it felt as if the bed was being shaken by someone and the windows were rattling - it was terrifying as for a few seconds I had no idea what was happening, although apparently it only registered 3.4 on the Richter scale. The later one was 3.6 but as we were up and about it did not feel so bad. Yellowstone experiences between 1-2,000 such mini-quakes a year but so far luckily nothing on such a scale as New Zealand.
Very dramatic picture of Daisy! Glad you got to experience a small earthquake. We get them here sometimes--I can remember waking up in the middle of the night because my bed was moving back and forth
