This is a view that I planned to take before we left the UK and which I thought I would not have a chance to get today as the weather was so bad this morning with torrential rain and thunderstorms since 12 midnight last night up to lunch time.
This is the sudden change to winter here in Yellowstone, there seems to be very little autumn like we have in the UK. Despite being in 30+ a few days ago, snow is forecast tomorrow evening - amazing.
It is not possible to fully appreciate the colours of the Spring at ground level but to gain an overview, there is a brisk trail walk followed by a steep short hike up to a ridge (wearing bear bells!), there may have been another trail but we could not find it!
There are so many amazing sights around Old Faithful - if you would like a look I’ve put a couple of galleries on my FB photography page -
@kkolstad@savannah51 thank you both. This is our first visit to Yellowstone and it is an amazing place. I cannot believe how big the caldera is and the stunning colours of the springs and geysers. I feel lucky that we managed to visit Yosemite a couple of years ago as the fire damage looked pretty bad a few weeks ago. This is our last evening, and apparently snow is forecast tomorrow... hope we make it to Jackson Hole airport OK (then flying to Chicago) :-)
@emmadurnford Don't believe you will have a problem. The one year I worked there in the summer during university years, it snowed in September......fantastic! Get your camera ready!
What a collage of contrasts and action, the streams of color at the bottom of the crater - forming what looks like orange rivelets, the steam so white and perfect - contrasted by the dark green of the hills and trees. Beautiful
@helixconcepts Hi there, we arrive in Quebec, late in the evening on the 22nd of September and then pick up a car in the morning of the 25th, so in the city for 2-days. Are you around in the city anytime?
This is a stunning landscape you've been visiting Emma. You are also getting lots of exercise! Hope you have a wonderful time in Quebec. I'm also hoping for some good fall colour for you when you get to Ontario. I'm afraid Toronto won't offer anything as spectacular in the way of scenery as what you've been seeing lately.
