Poem Shop: Pick a topic. Get a poem.

Jackson Square, New Orleans. Sometimes New Orleans depresses me. . . .
Why does it depress you? Looks a bit chilly. Did you get a poem?

I don't think I've ever seen someone selling poems on the fly before. I'm curious about that! Also about your comment. I could think of some things that I might find depressing there- but I've never been so that would be speculation on my part as I'd be comparing it to Salem Mass. which I did find depressing. Anyway- I like the shot and there does seem to be a little sadness in it somehow.

@allie912 @olivetreeann I appreciate your comments! Yesterday in New Orleans we wanted to visit St Louis Cathedral to see it decorated for Christmas, but it was closed for a wedding. In front of the cathedral were some sad street performers and a lot of palm readers. There are always a lot of artists who hang their work on the railing around Jackson Square. Yesterday no one was even looking at their work. In retrospect, this woman was at least trying something different and she was dressed better than the street people. New Orleans has a lot of homeless people and runaway teens.

@eudora You are right[ that is sad. I was there in March and enjoyed the sights immensely. If I had known that about Jackson Square, I wonder how it might have changed my opinion.

@eudora I had a feeling it must be something like that. Yes, in Salem there is a lot of witchcraft (as would be suspected) and there is just a pall that hangs in the air from it. While I didn't see a lot of homeless people there, there were several street "artists"- palm readers, tarot cards- very disheartening and also distracting from the historicity of the place. Sad, sad, sad...

@allie912 I remember when you went there! I usually love visiting New Orleans, but sometimes I see things that make me sad--but that can happen in any big city. It happens in Baton Rouge! Several years ago there was a fire in an abandoned warehouse in New Orleans that killed eight people who had been living there.

@olivetreeann That must have been very depressing in Salem. Yesterday in front of the cathedral my husband and I were reminded of the Biblical money changers in the temple area. It just seemed so out of place.

@eudora That they were on the steps of the cathedral also makes me think of the deeper issue between Light and darkness- a spiritual battle we often do not see. The Good News is that it will not last forever!
