Peace is where you find it

Early morning at the Bonnet Carre spillway, a river-control structure that redirects water from the Mississippi River into Lake Pontchartrain. We went to see it the last time it was opened, in 2011; that day it was crowded with sightseers and fishermen. Friday morning, there was only one other person there, and I was surprised at how peaceful it was. There was not much river traffic but lots of birds, so the only sounds I heard were bird calls. I saw a bald eagle but didn't get his picture. Along the roads nearby I saw three dead alligators, run over by cars. Protecting people takes its toll on wildlife, in lots of ways.
I like the contrast of the egret against the boat- two kinds of fishing! I can't imagine running over an alligator. I know they are dangerous but to intentionally kill one by running over it is cruel.
