Today is both VE Day and the birthday of my father and uncle, whose 1904 birth certificate read simply "Twin boys." When I get to feeling sorry for myself during quarantine, I think of my parents, who married during the Great Depression and survived challenges and deprivations that make ours seem minimal. The difference is that they did not have the social isolation that is so tough today.
