Commissary by eudora

Commissary

St. Gabriel, Louisiana

My husband says a commissary was where the tenant farmers could shop on credit.
Great piece of history

Thank you for the explanation - the building looks quite old. They were hard times for the settlers then.

Is this just an abandoned building you have discovered or is it part of a museum of some type? It’s a fabulous composition and such an interesting piece of history

@grammyn Thanks for your continued interest in these old buidlings. This one is next to the old general store https://365project.org/eudora/365/2020-08-02. I went looking for the one-room school house, which I saw on the National Register of Historic Places. I passed this when I took a different way home.

Another awesome historic building from this town- is it a living museum or a historic park? The buildings seem so special because of the time they came from- especially this one. Good shot!
