Southern Gothic

Years ago, Grandma Berthelot's grandchildren created a little chapel in the laundry room using found objects-- the base of an old piano, a statue of the Madonna, an icon. Forty years later, with the laundry now a storage room, vestiges of the chapel remain.
This is the type of thing I love. Who was Grandma Berthelot?

@wiesnerbeth Thanks. I want to go back and take a better photo because I liked it so much! While visiting a restored church, I met a fascinating woman who showed me her grandmother's old house nearby. Family is so important to her that she shared a lot of stories of her Grandmother Berthelot. An interesting side note for teachers: when my new friend retired, she tried substitute teaching. She lasted four days....

@eudora You have the best stories! I substituted once. While I was waiting just inside the door for the kids to come in I heard one girl say to her friend, “hey, we have a sub, let’s mess her up!” They were in 2nd grade AND they knew me — my regular job at the time was phonics tutor at the same school. I can see why she only lasted four days!

I never watch the news (too depressing!) but I heard about the double hurricanes — I hope you are well and safe!

This really has a wonderful story to it- especially since you talked with a family member who knew it. I bet this would also look good in black and white or low color. I really respond to the inventive way they put their chapel together- resourceful children! Great shot.
