Breadalbane was founded by Scottish Settlers who came from the Breadalbane district of Perthshire in the highlands of Scotland; an area noted for its striking natural beauty. Living conditions in Scotland were harsh and on June 15th 1815 the settlers set sail from the port of Greenock on the firth of Clyde (near Galsgow), bound for Canada.
The settlers travelled up the St Lawrence river to Lancaster from their landing point in Montreal. In the spring of 1816, after spending the winter with friends and relatives the settlers headed for the area now known as Breadalbane.
Upon reaching their destination, the first thought of the Baptist settlers was to find a place to worship. A suitable place was found in the woods on the farm of James C MacLaurin and with the sky for their roof, a church began.
