The cows ate down the front field and it was time to move them to the back once again. The calves seem to have learned about electric fences, and we have made the necessary repairs. They are quite content to be back to their normal spot. This guy was playing peek-a-boo behind a sumac tree, ready to dash if I got even one step closer.
Your comment reminds me of a poem by Philip Larkin entitled "Wires" which I studied with my English tutees last winter. The line "the calves seem to have learned about electric fences" made me think of "Young steers become old cattle from that day".
