The Village of Maxville, population of 800, welcomes tens of thousands of visitors to the Glengarry Highland Games every August long weekend. (The first weekend in August) These Games are the largest Highland Games in North America and feature the largest massed pipe bands. It is a moving experience to hear hundreds of pipers playing Amazing Grace at the same time!
The Highland Games run on volunteers. There are no paid positions except for those people contracted to work that weekend such as security, entertainment, and such. These four gentlemen look after the 65 acres required for the Games, a process that takes all year to do since the Maxville Fairgrounds host other events but culminates with the Opening Ceremonies of the Games.
Great to see these four gents. There are volunteers all over the world who work tirelessly to help organise events that get little if any recognition. I would imagine they get a great deal of satisfaction seeing other peoples enjoyment though over the weekend.
Hey, you're back! I really like the composition of this photo. The heroes of the Games are not those wearing kilts, but the people who toil away for months to put it all together.
