We do not own enough cows to make it feasible to keep a bull all year so we do things a little bit different than most farmers.
We AI (artificially inseminate) our cows as they come into season. And, because that method has only a 66% success rate and we don't always see when the cows come into season, we then rent a bull to clean up any cows that are not bred.
Bulls will get the job done much better than we do!
This is our guy for this year. He is a huge Black Angus, and very quiet!
Will attempt to get a prettier picture of him later on for all to see.
A handsome boy Wendy, he is in for some fun!!
We used AI too for our dairy cows but because we always were very hands on , milking etc we used to have quite a high rate of success. Harry used to go round the cubicle house every night before bed & used to catch any ready for the bull. Brian learnt how to do AI & we had a large flask full of straws of different bulls.
In NZ they do what you do , put a bull in to catch the stragglers.
Oooh, I like it. He looks so serious. My life is far from a farming life so very rarely get to see farm animals. I am always interested in the cows and have been hoping all summer to get a chance to snap a photo of one. Can't wait to see more of this guy.
A handsome looking chap. There are some farmers in my village that breed Angus cattle I will see if I can get a photo of their bull. Not going to get too close though so will have to use a long lens.

I never thought of renting them.
