Smooth, Silky Waters by farmreporter

Smooth, Silky Waters

My get pushed partner, Laura, @la_photographic, challenged me to take some long exposure shots. I am discovering that it is not all that easy to do during daylight hours since all you get is a washed out, over-exposed picture.
This challenge is a work in progress!
The creek is fast moving with spring run-off, but looks silky smooth with this 1.3 sec long exposure.

Thank you for the wonderful challenge. I am really enjoying it - trying to work out all the technical details to make it work!
So - here is my second attempt. Have an idea for a third!

Hi Wendy, love the sepia tones and preserving the silky movement of the water - without it going completely flat.

Its tricky getting long exposures in the daytime without ND filters.
I've heard some people use welding glass as a cheap alternative to filters though you do get a colour cast. Can't vouch for it as I've never tried that myself!

@lizhammond
Thanks for the advice, Liz
I also noticed that I left my ISO at 640. Will bring that down to 100 or so to see if it makes a difference. And, will invest in some ND filters - they probably will pay for themselves in no time at all.
