Another shot from the visit to my mums in South Yorkshire earlier this week. While she had a visitor I went for a short walk along the towpath of what was once a very busy industrial canal - the Dearne and Dove. I clearly remember lots of barges unloading sand and other things for the local glassworks when I was younger. Both barges and glassworks have now gone,
Today the route of the canal is abandoned and has vanished, with many sections built over but here, close to where it joins the River Don, a short stretch of water remains, and it is popular with fishermen.
It has also become something of a haven for wildlife, and in this shot a comma butterfly rests on one of the canal side bushes.
For a view along the canal see my solo project - http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-04-10 - although the vegetation has grown quite a lot since that shot was taken!
Sorry Kate, I missed this comment first time round. Thank you for your comment - there seems to be a lot of butterflies quite late in the season this year.
Thank you Kate, we are OK, but Katharine is still doing lots of visits to Sheffield to see her mum in the hospice. A sad time with someone so ill, but great that she is in a place where she is so well cared for.
Thank you Gloria, glad you like it.

Thank you Julia - I love the bright cheerful colours of many of our butterflies.

Thank you Molly - apparently the comma butterfly is becoming more common with global warming, although I must admit I havent seen too many.

Thank you Ferry - I liked the contrast of the colours of the butterfly and the flower.

Thank you Denise, glad you like it.

Thank you Lynne - apparently the name comma comes from a white marking on the underside.
