Another shot taken at the aviary at Burnby Hall gardens, Pocklington.
Wikipedia says "The diamond dove (Geopelia cuneata) is a resident bird in Australia. The dove predominantly exists in areas near water but which are lightly arid or semi-arid in nature, being Central, West and Northern Australia. They are one of Australia's smallest pigeons along with the peaceful dove. They have been spotted occasionally in Southern Australia in parks and gardens when the centre of Australia is very dry."
Beautiful close up. We don't get them in our part of Australia on the east coast. Looking on the map of where they are resident, it seems to be further inland and north.
Thank you for the info. and I think he could thrive in our climate. A lovely pigeon and the orange ring around the eye is so very unique. He looks well fed, too. Beautiful capture of him.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the popular page.
I hope you've enjoyed this brief series of shots from Pocklington. It's an interesting town, and I was particularly impressed with Burnby Hall gardens, so I suspect it won't be too long before I make another visit.
