Hoverfly on an allium flower by fishers

Hoverfly on an allium flower

An early post today, since I'm travelling this afternoon.

I found this hoverfly in the Homestead Park, Clifton, York. There were large numbers of butterflies, bees, hoverflies and other insects amongst the flowers near the Water End entrance.

There are many varieties of hoverfly, but this type of hoverfly looks very much like a wasp. That is just a protective camouflage to deter other creatures from attacking it. They are a gardener’s friend, being important pollinators, and eaters of aphids.

Thank you for your comments and favs. Ian will enjoy looking at them when he gets home. I love it when the Alliums are in bloom at the Homestead. We are fortunate to live near such a beautiful, well cared for park
