Thank you for your kind wishes for Katharine. Unfortunately her return home was short, since severe pain in her shoulder and abdomen meant I had to call an ambulance late last night and she is back in York hospital for further investigation and more pain relief. Still, she was quite cheerful when I saw her this afternoon.
Today's photo is another from Selby Abbey and shows the choir altar and it's magnificent reredos and impressive east window. The altar was a gift from the people of Oberammergau to Selby following a fire in 1906, and it is carved entirely from oak.
The history of Selby Abbey is long and complicated, so I don't propose to give any information about that, but for those interested the Selby Abbey website has an interesting summary.
One feature that might be of particular interest to our friends in the USA is the Washington Window, high on the right of this shot, but not visible. The coat of arms on this window has red stripes with pierced spurs above, and is thought to be the inspiration for the 'Stars and Stripes'.The pattern on the coat of arms is that of the Wessington family of County Durham, who were ancestors of George Washington.
Great capture of the beautiful interior . Fav.
( I totaly agree with you. Even on roofs I do n`t like it. Only on flat ones where they not beeing seen. )
Beautiful capture. I must find some time to do a search on the history of this very old church. Very sorry to hear about Katherine - hope it is nothing serious and that she is back home very soon. Will be in my prayers.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page. Thank you also for your messages of care and encouragement for Katharine. She remains in hospital, and now has pleurisy. To add to life's complexity, my mum is also now in hospital in Rotherham with a chest problem.
What a lovely stained glass window and arches.
Oh dear...not again! Sorry to hear she had a step back. Hoping they can figure this thing out. I had shoulder pain and abdominal pain when I had a perforated ulcer many years ago. Take good care.
@gardenfolk@bkbinthecity Thank you both for your lovely comments. Katharine came home today (Monday), but we have been warned it will take some weeks for her to make a full recovery.
@gardenfolk Thank you CC Folk, Katharine is being very careful with what she does now she is home again, and is making slow progress towards full health.
